Milagu Thulasi Kashayam for cold and cough

Pepper (Milagu) and Basil leaves(thulasi) are two most important ingredients used in most of the home remedies for cold and cough. Cold and cough are very common among children and adults and when there isany season change most of us get affected with cold and cough. Even though, our body has certain system to cure by itself, these home remedies makes it much faster. The simple kashayam is harmless compared to other antibiotics. We make thekashayam out of the ingredients found commonly.

Ingredients :
Black pepper (Milagu) - 1 teaspoon
Basil leaves (tulasi) - 10 fresh leaves
White pepper corn (Vaal milagu) - 1/2 teaspoon
Turmeric powder (Manjal Thool) - 1/4 teaspoon
Candy Sugar(Panangkarkandu) - 1/2 teaspoon
Ghee (Nei) - 2 drops
Method :
  • Dry roast the pepper, white pepper and grind it coarsely.
  • Wash the basil leaves and crush it using the palms.
  • In a vessel add 1 cup of water and boil it with the pepper powder, basil leaves, turmeric powder.
  • Boil it until the content reduces to half.
  • Strain the liquid and add the candy sugar and ghee.
  • Drink the kashayam when it is still warm.
  • It soothes the throat when taken in a warm condition.
