Benefits of Dry Ginger (Sukku)

Sukku is the tamil name for dry ginger. Sukku has many health benefits as ginger itself. Very commonly dry ginger is used in the treatment of  cold, cough and fever. Here are the few benefits listed.

Sukku to reduce pitham (Body Heat)

Pitham is the term used to represent body heat. Some people will have excess body heat which is good for health. To reduce the pitham, a teaspoon of sukku powder is added in a glass of lime juice and consumed. This is said to reduce the body heat.

Sukku Pathu for headache

Sukku is one of the best medicine for headache. Rub the dry ginger in a stone with very little water. Take the paste and apply this on the forehead(like pathu poduthal). If needed you can place a piece of cloth on the forehead. Let it be on the forehead for some time. This will be a good reliever for you from the headache. Sukku pathu can also applied for arthritis pain.

Sukku Thippili Milagu for Cold

This is an age old traditional medicine for cold and cough. This method is mostly known to all people of Tamilnadu. Take equal quantity of the ingredient and powder it. Use the powder to make kashayam and drink the kashayam thrice a day.

Sukku for weight reduction

Sukku malli coffee when consumed daily along with naatu sakkarai will help in reducing the accumulated fat around the waist and other parts of our body.

Sukku Remedy for cold

Boil a glass of milk with half spoon of sukku powder added to the milk. Once the milk started to boil, put off the stove and add required amount of sugar. Filter the milk and drink the milk to get a better relief from cold.

Sukku Milagu Kulambu

This kuzhambu is also a traditional food of Southern part of India. It is a gravy which will be mixed with rice and consumed. This will be given for the person who suffers from cold and fever. The food itself becomes a medicine for the person and cures the common cold and fever.

Sukku Kashayam

  • Take a glass of water,
  • Add 1/2tsp of sukku powder and pepper powder.
  • Let it to boil for 5 to 10 minutes in low flame
  • Then add jaggery as per your taste.
  • This kashayam is one another method to cure common cold among children and adults.

Sukku Rasam

Sukku rasam does its best in curing  indigestion and gastric problem. To prepare sukku rasam, in a glass of water, add half a spoon of Jeeragam and sukku powder and bring it to boil. Keep boiling it until the water reduces to half. Remove from heat and drink it with tolerable heat. Drink it twice a day if suffering from common cold or cough or fever.

Ginger prevents Cancer

Recent studies shows that ginger can prevent cancer. It is tested and proven that it reduces the risk of prostate and ovarian cancer. Even it is found that it is more times effective than chemotherapy. Add ginger in your daily diet. Studies also shows that ginger prevents intestinal cancer. Either  fresh ginger or dry ginger must be added in daily diet.
