10 Simple Home remedies for knee pain

Knee pain is common among ladies after 40 years of age. This may be due to overweight or other health conditions. But there are various simple home remedies which can be followed to relieve from the pain. Knee pain in tamil is called as "Mootu Vali". There are many traditional ailments followed in South India for relieving this mootu vali.

Home remedy for knee pain with broad beans

  • Add more Broad Beans (avarai kai) in your diet.
  • Another external application method is :
    • Broad beans and tamarind are made into fine paste.
    • This paste is applied on the affected area and left for 10 minutes.
    • This method is said to reduce the knee pain.

Garlic as home remedy for knee pain

Garlic is also one of main ingredient in treating knee pain.
  • Around 5 pods of garlic is cooked in boiling milk.
  • The garlic will become very tender.
  • This well cooked garlic will be consumed for 48 days continuously.
  • It is one of the home remedy to reduce knee pain.

External application of oil for knee pain

In southern part of India, oil comes to our rescue for most of the external applications. For knee pain too, our natures gift helps us.
  • Equal quantity of coconut oil(Thengai ennai), neem oil(veppennai) and gingelly oil(nallennai) are taken.
  • It is mixed well.
  • The mixed oil is then heated until it becomes warm enough to apply it on the affected knee area.
  • The oil will penetrate the skin and gives soothing effect.

Dry Ginger paste for knee pain

  • Dry ginger(sukku) is soaked in water for some time.
  • Then it is made into paste using a mixer or using the ammi kal.
  • This paste is applied on the knee to get relieved from the pain.

Dry ginger(sukku), mustard seeds and murungai pattai 

  • Equal quantities of dry ginger(sukku), white mustard seeds(kadugu) and murungai pattai are taken and ground into fine paste with very little water. Dry ginger must be peeled.
  • A teaspoon of this is taken in the empty stomach in the morning.
  • This is one of the remedy followed by a paati near by our place.

Special ingredients that may help to cure the knee pain

  • Mudakkathan keerai (mudakku aruthan keerai) means that it will defeat all (mudakku) joint problems. Feeling proud about the Tamil names for the herbs. How meaningful it is to call by that name. This mudakkathan keerai is a  great herb which is mainly used to cure all types of knee pain and nerve problems. So this keerai is a must in your diet to get relieved from knee pain.
  • Take a handful of mudakkathan keerai and saute in cow ghee. This has to be consumed to prevent all types of joint pains.
  • One more miracle herb is Pirandai which is also helpful in curing all problems with joints. Make pirandai thuvayal and take this regularly in your diet. Atleast once in a week, this pirandai must be added in your diet.

Some other tips to reduce the pain

  1. At night, before sleep apply gingelly oil on the foot to reduce the leg pain.
  2. Lemon leaves(Elumichai Ilai) must be made into paste and applied on the knee to reduce the knee pain.
  3. Pirandai is a good ingredient for cure from knee pain.
  4. Applying mudakkathan juice over the painful are will relieve the knee pain.
  5. Poppy seeds(Kasa kasa in tamil) along with thuthi leaves are made into paste and applied on the knee to reduce the pain.
  6. Juice of nochi leaves are applied on the affected knee to get rid of pain.
  7. Onion is saute in mustard oil and tied in a piece of cloth. This is then massaged on the knee.
  8. Athi ilai is ground into paste and tied on the knee regularly to reduce the pain.
  9. Regular use of cow ghee in diet will lubricate the joints.
  10. Take nutritious rich food.
